Zhang, James 张朝晖

Dr James Zhang is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Khosla Ventures, a VC firm famed for its investments in cleantech. James was born in Kaifeng, Henan and raised in China. He majored in biology at China’s University of Science and Technology. He came to the US in 1986 and earned a PhD in Plant Genetics from the University of California Davis in 1992. After completing his post-doctoral research at Stanford University, he became one of the founding members of Mendel Biotechnology, a successful plant biotechnology and bioenergy company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2004 he was named by the Chinese National Science Foundation to be an outstanding Overseas Chinese youth. Before leaving Mendel Biotechnology in August of 2009 to join Khosla Ventures, James was Mendel’s Vice President of Business Development, the President of its China branch and a Managing Director. James also received executive education at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.

张朝晖博士, 出生于河南省开封市。1983年河南省理工科高考第一名，当年进入中国科技大学就读生物专业。1986年赴美留学，1992年加州大学戴维斯遗传学博士，1992-1997年斯坦福大学博士后，2008年斯坦福大学商学院高级经理班毕业。1997年成立美国孟德尔生物技术公司，任公司副总裁，孟德尔中国分公司总裁，执行董事。2004年获中国国家自然基金委海外杰出青年。现任美国Khosla风险投资公司住院企业家（EIR）。
